Ramadan for Children
In 2023, Ramadan takes place from Wednesday, March 22 through Thursday, April 20. If you are looking for children’s books that celebrate messages of kindness and giving back, here is a list of suggestions:
PBS Learning Media shares a helpful video for children and youth. In the video, Nadia, a young Muslim-American girl, describes the celebration of Ramadan, in which Muslims fast, or go without food and drink, during the day. She narrates a day in the life of her family of parents and siblings as she completes the fast for a whole day. Nadia explains when Ramadan happens, what happens from the beginning to the end of the day, and what it means for adults and children. The video ends with a description of the holiday celebration that ends the fasting month of Ramadan, and what carries over into the next year.
