Parents’ Night Out

img_1335.jpgWhat parent doesn’t love a break from the kids now and then? Unfortunately, some parents of children with special needs struggle to find – or pay for – skilled and experienced childcare. That’s where we can help!

Led by Erin, a speech-language pathologist at our Burien location, and staffed by volunteers, the biannual Parents’ Night Out draws between 10-20 children for an evening of playtime, socializing and a meal – all at no charge for families. “These are all children who are currently receiving services at our Burien location, so they’re quite familiar to us,” Erin says. “We invite siblings, too. It’s so important for parents of children with special needs to get some time to themselves. They work so hard for their children!”

A variety of local businesses support the event by donating kid-friendly food. “Mexican food is a hit with most children, and both Azteca and Taco Time have supported us in the past,” Erin says. She recruits volunteers from the local high school, Highline, who receive community service hours and an opportunity to learn a little about the field of pediatric therapy. “We are really grateful to the Burien community for their support,” Erin says. “Our parents love this event and we love being able to offer it.”
