The helps children ages birth to three to reach developmental milestones, achieve school readiness and reduce their need for special education. “The earlier children with disabilities or delays receive intervention, the more effective the results,” says Early Intervention program director Karen Stedman.

“We are very intentional about providing parents and caregivers of children with special needs the information, coaching and support they need to better support their child’s development on a daily basis,” says Stedman. This includes:

  • how to implement fun, play-based physical, speech, and occupational therapy activities at home
  • what to expect and how to provide what children need during each new developmental phase
  • how to recognize learning opportunities during daily routines
  • parenting strategies, including positive discipline techniques, that support the child’s health and wellbeing
  • signs of potential developmental delays
  • cultural factors that influence parenting practices
  • factors that promote or inhibit healthy childhood development
